Dearne Vanguard Education & Training
Community Interest Company

As a social enterprise, DVET remains close to the principles of community empowerment and cohesion through collaborative activities.

Our commitment to those overarching principles can be seen in the work we do in the area of education within the wider Dearne Valley.

Our priorities are threefold:

To educate those who wish to learn in a friendly and supportive environment, exploring future paths for learners when they are ready;

 To present community groups in South Yorkshire with the skills and expertise to deliver identifiable goals such as cross-generational understanding, expanding people's horizons and encouraging self-esteem through archaeology and local history;

To provide local training for small and medium sized businesses within the community they are based, which is high quality and can be dedicated to their individual training needs.

Community History & Archaeology Projects are very popular - but finding the right team to deliver the chosen outcomes can be difficult. Here at DVET we can put together a specific team in order to fulfil any project's needs.

Our most recent dig saw one local community in Barnsley literally uncover their past, with people from the age of 8 working alongside those of 80 towards a common goal and realising that they shared more than just that.

As a means of community empowerment, the past can help us to understand the present.

For more information on our latest dig and the ongoing benefits to the community in which it took place, see our Community History & Archaeology page.
